Maui, HI (June 19, 2023) - At approximately 5:00 a.m. on June 19, a serious motor vehicle accident happened on a highway in Maui that left those involved with injuries. 

The collision occurred on the Hana Highway near mile marker 6 in Paia. Investigations reveal that a 20-year-old male was headed east on the highway in a stolen Chevrolet Cobalt. He rear-ended a white 2014 F 150 County of Maui pick-up truck that was rear-ended by a Toyota Corolla. A 30-year-old male was operating the Toyota, sources said. 

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Cobalt was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center with injuries along with the Corolla’s driver. The Ford F150, a 31-year-old Lahaina male, along with his passenger, a male from Kahului, age 48, sustained minor injuries. 

Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. 

Authorities in Maui continue to investigate.
